Well what a weekend!

Kierah’s first race meeting in the Microsprint which happened to coincide with the NSW State Title held at Oakburn Park Raceway, promoted by Wide Open Promotions.

With only having done about 30 practice laps at Valvoline Raceway the previous month, her goals were simple

Go forward – Have fun – Learn

Being her Rookie season in the class, she was an automatic rear of field starter being her first race meeting. No worries at all, the first goal was to Go Forward!

Hot laps – “It Felt great to be strapped in & finally waiting after having not driven anything for a year. Come back to the pits, noticed we had water coming out of the exhaust port. Blown head gasket! – Got that fixed ready to go for our first heat!”

Heat 1: Start 14th – Finish 7th

“That was so much fun, to come through the field passing 7 other cars on a track that I had only previously driven my Speedway kart on was such a thrill”

Heat 2: Start 14th Finish 10th

Heat 3: We were able to be gridded in the field from points earned in the previous heat races – super excited to be able to do this!

Started 9th – Finish 10th

Kierah was making great progress working her way up to 7th, however missing a gear going into turn 2 allowed a three cars through “That was a Rookie mistake, thought I was in 5th but was in 4th then geared down to 3rd, not ideal, but it happens” saying with a grin

Feature: NSW State Title
Start 8th – Finish 4th

“What a rush this was to be, my first race meeting, gridded up into the field, starting 8th, NSW Title, you experience so many things when your in a race car, the adrenalin rush was just amazing! I got a great start going forward, I caught up to Geoff Procter who was in 4th, we had a good battle for a couple of laps, I was watching him and noticed he was a little off line coming out of turn 2, so I did the switch back on him going in to turn 2 which worked really well, with the Chequers coming out, I was only 3 car lengths away from 3rd place! “

It was a superb effort by Kierah, with her engine blowing another head gasket in the 3rd heat and having no spare, the engine was run in the feature hoping it was going to finish in which it did!

Kierah was awarded the Hard Charger Award for her efforts in her first race meeting, not to bad for a Rookie!
